3 items to replace my cellphone
These are 3 items I carry to ‘replace my phone’
Screen time is negatively correlated with life satisfaction.
It’s more severe for some than others, for me it was awful
A tool that does EVERYTHING, simply leads to distraction.
I prefer tools that have one job. It encourages intentional activity and removes the potential for multitasking.
I truly believe that the simplest way to increase life satisfaction and trajectory is to spend more time in spaces of single minded focus.
One thing at a time.
Below are the three replacement devices that bring me the most joy and focus.
1 A notebook- Instead of the notes app, I’ll either use a journal or r if I’m on the go I’ll carry a little pocket notebook. Any time I get a new idea I’ll jot it down. I also use it to reflect on how I’m behaving in my life.
Life quickly becomes busy and hard to track. Constant digital screen viewing only intensifies the chaos. Writing by hand always clears the fog for me.
2. A camera- I like to carry around with me a compact camera. I personally use the lumix s9 as my walk around. I can take a picture and then place it back around my neck and forget about it. It has one job. Taking photos.
This actually allows me to be more focused on my surroundings. I have one rule for myself when I’m carrying my camera around; don’t review the pictures until you return home. I want to make sure it remains a tool for keeping me present.
3. A wrist watch- instead of looking at your phone and then subsequently getting lost, I prefer a watch. I’ll use it to time myself. 15 minute chunks for busy work and 90 minutes for deep work sessions.

Top tips that I practice and what a joy it is to be free of digital clutter.
